Biography
Lee Chang-dong is one of the most acclaimed and outstanding exponents of Korean contemporary cinema, in addition ex minister of culture. He is born in Daegu in 1953, and he graduates at the Kyungbuk University in 1980 in Korean language and literature. Well known and appreciated as a scriptwriter for works such as To the Starry Island directed by Park Kwan-su, he débuts as a director in 1996, with Green Fish with which he wins the Dragons & Tigers Award at the 16th Vancouver International Film Festival. His second film Peppermint Candy, he's been appreciated and acclaimed by public and critic: presented in premier as Opening Film at the 4th Pusan International Film Festival, it's been shown also at the Cannes Film Festival, and invited in more than 30 cinema festivals all around the word. He's then been guest, together with his last work Poetry at the last edition of the Florence Korea Film Fest.
